Abstract
The objective of this paper is to illustrate the application of Production Management and Operations Research techniques in minimizing capacity waste. Capacity has been taken to refer to the machine hours available at a work centre for productive activity. The time during which a machine centre is not involved in productive activity is conceptualized as the productive waste. The multiple objectives associated with the minimization of capacity waste have been identified along with the various impending constraints. It is proposed to apply goal programming in conjunction with inventory and maintenance modeling techniques to minimize the capacity waste.
